Major achievements for 2024 and 2025
- 23,450 students supervised in 5 refugee camps.

Present in Burundi since 1995
JRS Burundi works closely with authorities, local communities, and partners such as UNHCR, UNICEF, IRC, and many others. We operate in the provinces of Butanyerera, Buhumuza, Burunga, and Bujumbura, including the Kavumu, Nyankanda, Bwagiriza, Musasa, and Kinama refugee camps, as well as the Musenyi refugee camp.
Education: a priority for the future
31,088 refugees children and young people (14,111 girls and 16,977 boys) benefit from educational support in Burundi, both in the 5 camps, in urban areas and in the Musenyi site.
- 73 students (22F and 51M) benefited from the scholarship programs for the year 2025.
- 38,634 children (20,162F and 18,472M), including 22,910 repatriates , benefit from remedial courses .
- Dignity kits distributed to 7,300 girls and 872 students enrolled in newly built classrooms in Makamba and Cibitoke through the ECW project.
Support for families and communities
- 1,013 direct beneficiaries ( including 16 disabled women) and 7,600 indirect beneficiaries , including 1,600 men, 3,800 women, 1,300 girls and 900 boys, were able to benefit from the MIEZA project, the main objective of which is to facilitate a voluntary and more dignified return to Burundi of refugees in Tanzania.
- 14 savings and credit groups (GEC) and 10 producer field schools have been created to strengthen autonomy through the Alboan project.
- 1,382 children participated in psychosocial resilience sessions led by community trainers and facilitators thanks to the project to support children’s resilience and the quality of education through the TeamUp methodology.
School and health infrastructure
JRS built and/or rehabilitated:
- 38 rehabilitations (23 classrooms and 15 latrines) in the Kaze Twiyunge project financed by the European Union.
- 48 constructions/rehabilitations with ECW (including 16 preschool rooms and 4 latrine blocks).
- 3 classrooms in Nyanza-Lac (Makamba) via the GFFO project.
