JRS announces the appointment of three new directors

Rome – The Jesuit Refugee Service (JRS) is happy to announce three new appointments by the Jesuit superior general, Fr Arturo Sosa SJ.

Mr. André Atsu, who has served more than 15 years with JRS in South Sudan, Kenya, and Burundi, will become the Regional Director for JRS Eastern Africa. Mr Atsu takes up his new appointment in July 2019. Mr Atsu first joined JRS in South Sudan, where he eventually became country director. In 2010, he became the human resources officer in the JRS Eastern Africa regional office and served in this role until 2017 when he was appointed JRS country director in Burundi.

Fr Louie Albert SJ assumed the role of Regional Director for JRS South Asia on 13 June. Fr Albert was appointed JRS country director in Tamil Nadu in 2011. After serving in that position he completed his doctoral studies in sociology and went on to become a lecturer at Loyola College in Chennai, India. During his years of study and teaching he continued to support the cause of refugees and kept the mission of service and advocacy for them alive on the Loyola College campus in collaboration with other teaching staff.

Fr Aloysious Mowe SJ has been appointed Deputy International Director of JRS effective from 13 June. Fr Mowe has served as the Director of Advocacy and Communications in the JRS International Office in Rome since 2017. Before arriving in Rome he served as the country director for JRS Australia for seven years. Fr Mowe will continue to be the JRS International Director of Advocacy.
