The initial phases of displacement are usually the most life-threatening. Refugees often flee with just a few personal belongings, or with nothing at all, and they usually find themselves in harsh and inhospitable environments. JRS provides assistance to refugees when emergency aid is needed. Most relief operations are initiated with limited notice and have a short implementation period.

The main purpose of emergency relief is to save lives. JRS ensures the survival of refugees in emergency situations by providing shelter, food, water, sanitation, and non-food items. This can include cash payments for rent and other essentials, the construction of temporary housing, and building wells and latrines. We also work to ensure the protection of children and women, who are especially at risk during emergency situations.
